The Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter of Native Women's Incorporated, operating as the Hamilton Native Women's Centre (NWC) is an Indigenous lead, not-for-profit organization, providing a secure and empowering environment for women and children fleeing domestic violence/gender-based violence/intimate partner violence, suffering from homelessness, and/or human trafficking.

Anti-Human Trafficking Support Worker

in our Healing Our Sisters Transitional Living Program

.


This is a temporary position to provide maternity leave coverage until November 2026.

Position Summary



The Anti-Human Trafficking Support Worker, under the direction of the Executive Director, will provide physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual case management and direct supports to Indigenous women that identify involvement or are at risk of human trafficking and exploitation. The Anti-Human Trafficking Support Worker will be responsible for the overall service delivery to in-house clients of the Healing Our Sisters Program including providing emergency response to individuals who have experienced trauma from exploitation.

This includes conducting pre-assessments to the program, intakes, goal planning, case management, crisis intervention, case conferencing, safety planning, develop and facilitate group programming to meet the needs of the clients, Engagement with clients, community members and other community professionals is conducted in a respectful, non-judgemental and supportive way that helps incorporate culture as a way of being and knowing to improve their health and wellbeing, develop life skills, increase their sense of self, belongings and build resilience. Attendance is required at all staff meetings. Monthly, quarterly and year end reporting to be submitted, in a timely manner.

Qualifications Required



Post-secondary diploma/degree in social work, social service work, child and youth studies or related field that includes:

Knowledge of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth, women and children including homelessness, violence against women and children, human trafficking, poverty, mental health and substance use. Demonstrates cultural competency including awareness, knowledge and understanding of the impacts of colonialism and systemic issues. Experience working in a shelter/communal environment and completing intakes, safety plans, case notes, incident reports, plans of care, etc. is an asset. Case management experience and knowledge of various community resources to support people with diverse needs achieve their goals. Demonstrate professionalism and excellent communication skills, particularly in the areas of negotiation, facilitation, mediation, and advocating. Experience with program development, implementation and evaluation. Strong critical thinking and decision making skills. Knowledge of de-escalation techniques, harm reduction, and crisis management. Intermediate computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office Programming. Experience performing light cleaning, laundry, and cooking duties. Ability to use initiative, work independently as well as within a team atmosphere. High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment and to collaborate within a group setting. And any other duties as assigned
Additional qualifications required:

First Aid / CPR /AED Certification Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (NVCPI) ASIST Certification Food Handlers Certification WHMIS Certification Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector CPIC.
