Garden River First Nation administers a variety of programs and services. Various department managers oversee their individual programs, and overall administrative duties are overseen by a Chief Administrative Officer who is directly responsible to the Council who in turn, are responsible to the membership.

We are seeking a caring Anishinaabe Support Worker (ASW) to provide one-on-one support to a student with high needs at Garden River First Nation Elementary School. You will help the student grow and succeed while sharing cultural knowledge and supporting a positive, inclusive learning environment.

What you will do:



To act as a resource for school administration and staff to raise awareness and understanding of cultural, personal, and community issues that may impact the success of students of Indigenous descent.

Establish and maintain appropriate lines of communication with the GRFN Elementary School Teacher/Coordinator, Education Support Services, Education Department staff and school personnel.

Promote and support the academic success of our students by attending Individual Placement Review Committee (IPRC) meetings and Special Education initiatives that will benefit our students.

Promote behaviour expectations required in school and promote life skills for students.

Assist students, parents, and community members to understand school protocols, rules and policies as required.

Document any interaction between students, parents, school officials that is aimed at supporting our exceptional students as well as inputting appropriate data in student records.

What you can bring to the role:



Required Social Services Degree or College Diploma in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Developmental Services Worker or related studies from a recognized institution, or Youth Programming (preferred) with some academic courses (English, Math).

Preferred minimum two (2) years experience related to counselling Youth and/or Cross- Cultural programming.

Knowledge of work-related computer skills (e.g. MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook).
