The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. EHS is a safe haven for thousands of homeless animals each year, providing veterinary treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, care, enrichment and rehoming. Beyond animal sheltering, we engage with the community through various programs and services to support happy, lifelong bonds between people and pets.

The Role

The Animal Care Attendant Level 3 is responsible for providing daily care and feeding of cats, dogs, small animals, URI and canine hospital wards. Ensuring a high level of care and humane treatment to animals, while adhering to shelter policies and procedures.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Animal Care

Daily feeding and cleaning of regular cat, kitten and URI wards Daily cleaning and feeding of dog wards, including canine hospital Daily cleaning and feeding of small animal wards Communicating with other departments regarding animals as needed, in a professional and respectful manner


Shelter Support

Provide Assistance with ensuring laundry is washed and dried as required Provide assistance with washing the dishes Place up of cats/dogs/small animals for adoption on the adoption gallery Training Level 1 and Level 2 Animal Care Staff


Animal Enrichment

Socializing with cats in regular wards for enrichment purposes as required Socializing with small animals for enrichment purposes as required Walking dogs for enrichment purposes as required In kennel enrichment as required


Administrative

Entering care requests for animals as required Completing feeding/cleaning record sheets for each animal

Education & Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent Six (6) months or more prior experience required Six (6) months or more experience interacting with dogs and cats

Skills & Abilities

As the ideal candidate, you will have a passion for people, performance and diversity (within the lens of animal welfare). You have excellent communications skills (both verbal and written), with the ability to work independently and in fast paced environment. You are comfortable dealing with animals of all species and temperaments.

Compensation:

EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance.

Hours:

40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
