Job Description

Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre (SPWC) has been in operation for over 25 years, admitting over 6000 patients a year. The mandate of our facility is to help all injured and orphaned wildlife (including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians) and release them back into the wild. We also give advice and assistance to property owners who are having problems with their wild animal neighbours and can offer humane alternatives to solve these conflicts.

Main responsibilities are included, but not limited to:

General cleaning duties including: dishes, laundry, garbage, recycling, sweeping, mopping Daily cage and enclosure cleaning Daily patient care, including cleaning, weighing, feeding, cage set-up and repair, enrichment Caring for a variety of species admitted throughout the season at all life stages Capture and restraint of wild patients Preparing a variety of diets and formulas for patients of all life stages Answering to and facilitating the work of the Director and senior staff Record keeping- updating and recording care on patient charts
Requirements:

Capable of working 40+hrs/week, day or evening shifts, weekends as well as holidays Current Rabies and Tetanus vaccinations (current rabies titer required) Ability to perform hard labor, be flexible enough to get in and out of a variety of enclosures and lift 50lb Experience in animal husbandry (Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, Wildlife Care) preferred Endurance, enthusiasm, resourcefulness Must be willing to work with all wildlife species Drivers license and a mode of transportation to and from work Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to communicate effectively and work alongside staff, volunteers and interns Ability to maintain enthusiasm and a professional demeanor while working under pressure Ability to work independently and as a team player Strong attention to detail and organization skills Ability to follow instructions and protocols well

Pay: $17.20 per hour
