Why is this role important?

Our mission is to deliver a world-class digital Olympics experience for both our English and French audiences. The innovative and collaborative OTT team is growing the next generation of video-streaming experiences for both English and French-speaking Canadians, and the internal systems used for content management, customer relations, and data analytics.

We are adding an Android Developer to the team. In this role you\xe2\x80\x99ll be working with a dedicated multilingual team from across Canada to expand our innovative products that provide unique experiences to millions of Canadians and global citizens. You will develop, test, and roll out the next generation of our Olympics experiences for both our ICI-TOU.tv and Gem video streaming products. You\xe2\x80\x99ll help us share a window onto the Olympic stage with our audience and the world!

How you will make an impact:

You will contribute to our core product set, which includes:

The CBC and Radio-Canada native Android apps for ICI TOU.tv and CBC Gem.

A high-quality video playback experience for our users.

Integration with a backend system that stores and retrieves media, metadata, subscriptions, user information, and lineups.

You will help develop our tech stack, which includes:

Native Android codebases, components, and frameworks that are shared across multiple applications.

Backend components and systems built using Node.js, Java, C#, MongoDB.

Native unit test integrations and evolving automation frameworks.

You will create reactive layouts adaptable to both English and French and resizing to accommodate different displays.

Qualifications

What you could bring to our team:

  • The education. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, degree, or the equivalent is valued, but we know not everyone gains their app development skills this way.
  • The expertise. You have hands-on experience developing enterprise-level mobile applications. You can defend your ideas and challenge ours.
  • The experience. You have experience with build processes and an understanding of continuous integration and the full mobile development life cycle, including publishing to the Google Play store.
  • The technical knowledge. You have hands-on expertise writing maintainable code based on clean architecture principles. You can:
  • Develop in Kotlin.
  • Request and parse data from REST APIs.
  • Use both old and new Android libraries.
  • The collaborative approach. You understand the concepts of collective responsibility and ownership. You are an excellent communicator who practices active listening and empathetic engagement across diverse perspectives.
  • The quality mindset. You are passionate about delivering high-quality products. You understand modern approaches to testing, unit testing, manual test case execution (including the unique challenges in native mobile environments) - and when to best deploy them.
  • The ability to communicate in both French and English is an asset.
Please note that this is a 12-month contract.

This role offers the possibility of full-time telework or Hybrid.
