Schedule Description

28 hours per week. Weekly schedule: -Monday: 9:30am-4pm -Tuesday: 10am-4pm -Wednesday: 10am-3:30pm -Thursday: 10am-4pm -Friday: 9:30am-4pm Schedule may vary depending on departmental requirements.

DUTIES

Provides a variety of cashiering functions for the Bookstore/Print Shop such as operating an electronic cash register, receiving payments and summarizing cash sales; prices and labels goods; maintains records and prepares orders for shipping; purchases used textbooks; arranges merchandise displays.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Provides customer care including: acknowledging and greeting customers; encouraging customer purchases through recommending products or services to meet customer needs; and responding to customer requests.

  • Performs cashier duties such as receiving payments from customers for merchandise; maintains daily cash float balance and summarizes daily cash sales.
  • Assists with pricing and labeling of products such as stationery, arts supplies and clothing.
  • Performs front-end photocopier functions and services.
  • Records interdepartmental purchases and external customer accounts; checks price and quantities ordered; prepares order for shipping and sends to customer.
  • Purchases books from students in accordance with established procedures.
  • Sets up promotional displays of merchandise in Bookstore; arranges merchandise on store shelving.
  • Performs the production and issuing of the TRU Campus ID Card.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
  • One years\' related retail experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
  • Ability to handle cash
  • Ability to deal courteously and cheerfully with students, staff and members of the general public
  • Ability to operate related equipment such as electronic cash registers, calculators and adding machines
  • Working knowledge of cashiering in a retail environment
  • Working knowledge of electronic data entry
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ongoing customer contact
  • Working at cash register, front counter and standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift weights up to 10 kg
The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.

Pay Band

CUPE Grade 04 $28.14

Salary rate

This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
