Are you a versatile and passionate storyteller with a love for writing, interviewing, editing, reporting, and producing? We have an exciting part-time, entry-level opportunity for a reliable self-starter to join our dynamic newsroom at CityNews 95.7, and our news site CityNews Halifax. In this role, you will be responsible for creating compelling stories for radio broadcasts, for our website and occasional production work for The Todd Veinotte Show.

At CityNews, our dedicated team of talented journalists thrives on delivering up-to-the-minute news and sharing stories that showcase our community and what makes it a great place to live.

What you will do...

  • Cover assigned stories in a fast-paced news/talk environment
  • Stay updated on major developing stories and effectively communicate them across multiple platforms
  • Generate creative story ideas that resonate with our audience
  • Conduct news interviews, write and edit stories/scripts, and publish/broadcast the final product
  • Occasionally write, edit, and present newscasts
  • Provide assistance in other operational areas as needed
What you will bring...
  • Bachelor\'s degree in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a newsroom setting
  • Excellent language, writing, and editing skills
  • Have the ability to distill complex information into clear, engaging stories
  • Adhere to the highest standards of fairness, accuracy, and journalistic ethics
  • Possess exceptional writing and editing skills, and recognize the importance of social media in audience engagement
  • Strong understanding of journalism ethics and legal considerations
  • Proficiency in photography and associated editing software
  • Familiarity with BURLI (Broadcast URL Interface) is advantageous
  • Ability to work various schedules, including evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective time management and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while also collaborating within a large team
  • Possession of a valid driver\'s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record is required for this position.
