Analyst, Payroll Accounting

Job Description

Reporting to the Lead, Payroll Accounting, the Analyst is responsible for processing and validating the payroll accounting requirements across OMERS and Oxford Properties. The Analyst will partner with various stakeholders within the Enterprise to execute on critical activities in the processing and reconciliation of bi-weekly payroll entries for employees including international payrolls and other month-end duties as required.

The role will require an accounting professional with a strong understanding of payroll and internal controls, and a willingness to continuously adapt. You will have opportunities to engage with external auditors, work alongside senior leaders, and develop new skillsets for growing your career.

The person who fills this role will be a key member of the OMERS Corporate Finance team. Our ambitions are high: we aim to be the best corporate finance team in the Canadian pension industry.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:
Preparing and uploading weekly/bi-weekly/monthly payroll journal entries

Preparing bank and other general ledger reconciliations

Updating, maintaining, and developing KPIs as required to monitor progress

Variance and trend analyses, as requested

Contributing to various projects including process improvements, system automation and upgrades

Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, such as Payroll Advisory, Property Managers, and other accounting and FP&A teams

Preparing working papers for external auditors as required

Updating and maintaining process documentation

Participating in technical training and development opportunities

Completing assignments at the direction of the team Lead or Senior Manager

To succeed in this role, you have:
An undergraduate degree with an emphasis in accounting and finance

Completion of or enrollment in a professional designation such as, CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant), PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPM (Certified Payroll Manager)

Knowledge of Finance and HR systems, where experience with Oracle, JD Edwards, Ceridian Dayforce, and Workday would be an asset

Highly proficient in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong analytical, problem solving and reasoning skills

A proven team player, who possesses initiative, can work independently and with minimal supervision

High standards of business and ethical values with the ability to deal with confidential information
