The Opportunity: The Analyst, Commercial Mortgages will be engaged in assisting with the origination/underwriting of mortgages and credit ratings and operations of the Prairies Region Mortgage Investment Office (MIO) located in Calgary. Loan origination will be for Sun Life Financial’s General Account and provide mortgage origination products and services for SLC Management and/or BentallGreenOak. The Analyst will be part of the mortgage team originating mortgages for the Canadian Mortgage portfolio in the Prairies Region with annual volume targets determined by Portfolio Management and senior mortgage Leaders. In this role, the Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of mortgage loan recommendations (underwriting), loan closings and requested amendments to mortgage security. In addition, the Analyst supports the Vice President in the business development or “production” component of the Calgary What You Will Do:

• Review and analyze mortgage loan opportunities and make recommendations to senior leaders
• Manage closing of loan transactions by working with branch staff, counsel and clients/brokers
• Establish and maintain relationships with clients, real estate and mortgage brokerage firms for the purpose of actively seeking prospective mortgage investment opportunities.
• Keep current with market trends and activities
• Analyze, recommend, and manage changes or amendments to mortgage security

• Knowledge of multi-residential, retail, office, and industrial property mortgage underwriting.
• Experience in reviewing/analyzing lease/mortgage contracts, rent rolls, property operating statements and financial statements.
• Knowledge of the commercial real estate market and property valuation.
• Up to 5 years of relevant industry experience (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate focused program (preferred), Business Administration or Finance.
• AACI or similar professional designation is an asset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly motivated/team player.
• Self-starter with an ability to work independently.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong business acumen/decision making skills.
• Analyzing and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively manage several concurrent tasks/deadlines.
