Analog Ic Layout Engineer

Kanata, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

HaiLa is building ultra-low-power radio communications solutions that will eliminate the need for batteries in wireless communication devices by offering a product that is so hyper power-efficient it can run indefinitely from harvested energy. Our mission is to enable Ambient Power IoT with sensing everywhere, on existing protocols such as Wi-Fi.

This is an exciting opportunity for an

Analog IC Layout Engineer

to help shape the physical implementation of HaiLa's next-generation wireless chips. You will transform analog schematics into high-quality, manufacturable layouts, working side-by-side with world-class circuit designers in a dynamic startup environment.

Based in Montreal, HaiLa is supported by leading sustainability-focused venture investors as well as Stanford University.

We are prioritizing candidates who can join us in Canada (Montreal or Ottawa offices), but hybrid or remote arrangements are possible for exceptional candidates.

Core duties:

Perform full-custom layout, floorplanning, and routing of analog/mixed-signal circuit blocks. Integrate custom analog layouts with synthesized digital layouts at the chip top level. Conduct and close physical verification (DRC, LVS, ERC), resolving issues in partnership with circuit designers. Collaborate on layout strategies to meet performance, area, and power requirements. Prepare and submit final layouts to foundries and support tapeout logistics. Coordinate analog and digital IP integration from 3rd-party vendors. Contribute to R&D activities such as PCell creation and maintenance, layout automation, and process improvements.

Qualifications:

Experience: 3-5+ years in analog/mixed-signal IC layout, ideally with full-chip tapeout exposure. EDA tools: Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso (schematic and layout), Calibre, and related analog layout verification flows. Strong understanding of semiconductor processes and layout-dependent effects. Familiarity with layout techniques for precision analog blocks (e.g., current mirrors, matched pairs, capacitors, differential pairs). Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Microelectronics, or a related technical/college program - or equivalent practical experience. Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have:

Experience creating or customizing PCells and skill-based layout automation. Exposure to ultra-low-power or RF/mixed-signal design projects. Interest in contributing beyond layout (simulation support, coding, or other R&D tasks). Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment that values initiative and adaptability.
