Job Summary



The Alternate Master Grower (AMG) supports the Master Grower in the compliant, efficient, and lawful operation of cannabis cultivation, harvest, and post-harvest production. The AMG acts as a designated substitute when the Master Grower is unavailable and ensures ongoing adherence to internal procedures, Good Production Practices (GPP), and EU-GMP (where applicable). This role is essential in maintaining operational continuity, quality standards, and regulatory compliance under the Cannabis Act. This AMG reports directly to the Master Grower.

Key Responsibilities



Communication & Collaboration



Report technical issues to the Master Grower, QAQC Lead and AQAP/QAP. Participate in the establishment and execution of internal and external equipment calibrations and qualifications. Assist with compliance with equipment and infrastructure maintenance schedules. Review Batch Records before submission to the QAQC department. Contribute to evaluating change requests and assigning special tasks within the department. Provide on-the-floor supervision and technical support to cultivation staff. Assist with training new employees on plant care procedures, hygiene standards, and safety protocols related to cultivation. Promote consistent practices and ensure team compliance with sanitation, and safety standards. Lead the production team (all production personnel will report directly to this individual). Review, approve and report production team over time, vacation, missed/sic days and overall production team hours to Human Resources. Provide daily / weekly tasks to production team and ensure efficient labour allocation while prioritizing tasks. Ensure all QA training is compliant and ensure all health and safety training / requirements are compliant. Provide weekly production outlook / summary reports to the leadership team. Provide daily outlooks (one day in advance) to the QA team allowing them to proactively prepare for daily activities.

Production Management



Ensure the production and storage of products comply with established requirements, conditions, and written procedures. Approve production department work instructions and oversee their strict implementation by the production personnel. Ensure that batch records and other production documentation are adequately reviewed before submission to the Quality Control (QC) and Qualified Person (QP). Oversee the maintenance, cleaning, availability, and compliance of production spaces, equipment, infrastructure, and systems. Ensure proper monitoring and validation of production procedures.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance



Serve as the acting Master Grower during absences, with responsibility for cultivation and harvest activities only. Ensure all cultivation practices comply with Health Canada's Cannabis Regulations and internal SOPs. Support the documentation and traceability of all cultivation activities using batch records, cultivation logs, and plant tracking systems. Participate in Health Canada inspections, audits, and responses related to cultivation activities

Operational Excellence & Problem-Solving



Assist with daily activities associated with propagation, vegetative growth, flowering, and preparation for harvest. Ensure optimal conditions for plant health including light, temperature, humidity, irrigation, and nutrient delivery. Identify and report any signs of pest, disease, or environmental stress, and support Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. Assist in the development and execution of cultivation schedules and crop planning.

Process Validation & Risk Management



Monitor the cleanliness and functionality of cultivation rooms and related equipment. Report equipment issues and support maintenance or calibration as needed. Maintain and review cultivation records for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

Health, Safety, and Compliance



Ensure compliance with hygiene and safety rules, ethical requirements, and regulatory guidelines. Stay updated with industry developments in regulations, technology, and scientific advancements.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills



Post-Secondary Education in Agriculture/Diploma in Agriculture / Horticulture, Quality, Pharmacy, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, or Biology. Knowledge of plant physiology, nutrients and irrigation management, vertical farming, quality assurance systems and documentation management. Experience in plant cloning/sapling cuttings, rooting hormones, indoor cultivation, HVAC and aeroponic systems. Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards related to biological, toxic, and chemical hazards. Crisis management and emergency response planning. Understanding of confidentiality, ethical standards, and business data protection. Proficiency in conducting internal audits and risk assessments.

Mandatory



Must be eligible for designation as an Alternate Master Grower under Health Canada licensing. Clean criminal record with no drug-related convictions (RCMP background check required). Legal authorization to work in Canada and having security clearance certificate (SCC) from health Canada will be advantageous Must have access to reliable transportation (facility located outside of city limits) and valid driver license.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
