POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Education, the Akwe: go Coordinator ensures the effective delivery of the Akwe: go program such that the needs of children referred to the program are met in a timely and culturally sensitive manner.



KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and submit all reports as required by the funder. Develop the Annual Service Plan as required by the funder based on the needs of the participants. Maintain a roster of Akwe: go activities. Maintain attendance records of all Akwe: go activities and events. Assist with evaluation strategies as required by the funder and IC. Maintain volunteer attendance records. Ensure proper intake and all other documentation required by the funder. Develop Akwe: go program/activity flyers for parents, IC staff and community. Call parents on an ongoing basis to inform them of upcoming events, programs, and activities. Ensure the maintenance of secure and confidential filing system as required under the Case Audit Policy of the Ontario Federation of Friendship Centre's. Provide accurate records and reports of program activities and needs. Use time clock on a daily basis and follow time clock policy at all times. Ensure the development and implementation of a full range of program services as identified in the IC Annual Service Plan. Promote awareness and ensure success of the program. Promote the development of protocols and referral agreements as appropriate to meet the development needs of Inuit children in the community. Conduct needs assessments for children and to develop a plan of action to meet the needs of children referred to in the program. Refer children to appropriate services as required to meet the needs of the children and to document the results of these referrals. Initiate and participate in case management as necessary to ensure the needs of the children are met. Coordinate individual and group activities (physical and social, cultural) as required to meet the needs of children in the program. Ensure supervision of all program activities. Participate in training and evaluation processes to ensure continued growth and development of the program. Ensure a balance of approaches is available to meet the needs of all children attending and participating in the program. Assist in children's development through increasing life skills, safety awareness and anti-violence training. Increase cultural understanding of children and their families. Engage in "one to one" counseling and support, as children require. Promote inter-generational activities. Plan and purchase supplies for programs and activities including food when required. Guide participants in participation of all activities. Adapt programs to include all participants. Provide emotional support and encouragement to participants. Use positive behavior guidance strategies such as redirecting, positive language, and positive reinforcement. Be a positive role model to participants. Seek advice, support and guidance from colleagues and/Manager when needed. Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Manager of Educations. Other duties as required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS



Inuit descent preferred. Fluency in Inuktitut preferred. Knowledge of Inuit culture, values, and traditions. Experience working in Inuit or Indigenous community an asset. General knowledge of the needs of Inuit children and families in an urban setting. Knowledge of existing Inuit and non-Inuit community services and supports. College Diploma in / Child Youth Counsellor / Social Services. Diploma/Degree in Recreational services an asset. Experience in a Youth/Afterschool programs an asset

2. Physical ability to access three story building.

3. Valid Driver's License and access to licensed vehicle an asset.

4. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

5. Computer literacy.

6. Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations.

7. Ability to work in a collaborative staff team environment.

8. Enthusiasm, flexibility, dedication and commitment to children.

9. Police Record Check
