The Organization

In collaboration with our consortium partner, Arctic Infrastructure Partners, Nunavut Airport Services LTD provides Airport Management, Airport Operations, Facility Maintenance and Technical Services for the Iqaluit International Airport.



Under a 30-year Public Private Partnership (P3 or PPP) concession with the Government of Nunavut, Arctic Infrastructure Partners is contracted to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the expansion and redevelopment of the Iqaluit International Airport.



Although more commonplace on the international stage, this is the first and only completed airport PPP project in Canada. And as part of this project, Iqaluit International Airport also became the first ISO 9001 Quality Management System accredited airport operation in Canada.



The Opportunity

Reporting to the Airport General Manager, the Airport Rescue Firefighter is primarily responsible for the delivery of Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) operations, emergency first aid response, and other airport safety-related services.



Responsibilities include:



Perform as a member of a firefighting force by responding and performing as a driver/operator on firefighting vehicles at a crash, structural fire, fuel spill, bomb threat, and hazardous material spill, environmental and other emergencies. Ensure complete familiarity with response routes and vehicle positioning requirements. Carry out salvage/overhaul at an airplane crash. Apply extinguishing agent. Perform rescue operations, Operate specialized rescue equipment. Provide first aid when needed. Assist in the direction of city fire fighting forces. Participate in debriefings. Stand by in the event of a bomb warning or threat. Stand by or assist where applicable in emergencies to the handling of dangerous goods. Provide advice and assistance to the Associate Service Director and making recommendations to improve emergency services Conducts fire and safety patrols of movement areas and buildings.

Selection Criteria include:



Post-secondary education in a related field; Class 3 Driver's license with air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain them within 90 days of hire; Driver's abstract demonstrating a responsible and safe driving record; Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives; Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office; Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; Maintain a high level of physical fitness and complete a medical assessment; Ability to obtain an Airport Vehicle Operator's Permit and restricted radio/telephone license; NFPA 1001 Level 1 and Level 2 training an asset; Hazardous Materials training an asset; Airport-related experience is considered an asset; Possession and Acquisition License and wildlife management experience is considered an asset; and Must work shift work.

Working Conditions:



This full-time position will be stationed at an Iqaluit, Nunavut. Candidates must have the ability to work shift work, and be on-call outside of normal shift schedule. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada.



Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card and Clear Criminal Record Check
