Job Summary Interested in becoming an Air Traffic Controller? We are looking for motivated individuals to take on the responsibility of managing Canada\xe2\x80\x99s airspace in Atlantic Canada. Becoming an Air Traffic Controller does not require any prior specialized training or experience \xe2\x80\x93 all training is provided by NAV CANADA. And, students are paid to train. Following successful completion of the training program, salary will increase to that of a qualified/certified Air Traffic Controller


Training and Salary

Area Controller qualified salary $116,106 to $170,241
Training includes three phases: initial training, specialty training and on the job training. Both initial and specialty training include classroom and simulator portions.

• Training Salary: $49,622
• Average total duration for training: 20 to 27 months

Where you will train and work after qualification: Moncton ACC

Tower Controller $84,347 to $170,241
Training includes two phases: initial training (classroom and simulator) and on the job training.

• Training salary: $49,622
• Average total duration of training: 12to 27 months

Where you will train and work after qualification: You will train at our Moncton ACC during the initial training and will relocate to one of the towers for on-the-job training.

To make sure we\xe2\x80\x99re hiring the best possible people, our recruitment and training processes are rigorous and highly competitive. To apply for a career as a Flight Service Specialist or an Air Traffic Controller, you must meet the following basic requirements prior to applying:

• Be 18 years or older,
• Have a high school diploma, or equivalency,
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,

In person testing is planned for April 27 to May 2 in Halifax and May 5-11 in Moncton. Assessments for these candidates will take place mid-May.
To meet these testing dates, new ATS applications and initial online testing must be completed by April 20, 2023.

NAV CANADA has over 100 sites across Canada. For this competition, we are specifically looking to hire into Atlantic Canada or the Greater Toronto region. All applicants must be:

• Willing to relocate,
• Able to meet medical requirements,
• Prepared to undergo a security check and drug testing (including cannabis),
• Available for training after successful completion of the recruitment and selection process,

Our Air Traffic Controllers are responsible for coordinating the safe, efficient and orderly flow of air traffic in seven flight information regions, working in Control Towers and Area Control Centres (ACCs) across the country.

• Tower Controllers, also known as visual flight rules (VFR) controllers, have a direct view of the airport and aircraft, and use radio communication to issue instructions and clearances. After completing training, tower controllers work at one of 42 airports across Canada.
• Area Controllers, often referred to as instrument flight rules (IFR) controllers, are based out of ACCs, each of which is responsible for air traffic in a large section of Canadian airspace. Area Controllers train and work out of Area Control Centres in Vancouver (Surrey), Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto (Mississauga), Montreal (Dorval), Moncton or Gander.
