About Our Opportunity
Working with a team of professionals, you will be responsible for implementing provincial commitments relating to monitoring & mitigating air pollution and enhancing the long-term environmental and economic stability of the Province.
In this role you will support the administration of applicable regulations and guidelines under the Environment Act. You will support policy and program reviews and formulate recommendations and solutions based on research, jurisdictional scans, and statistical analysis.
Primary Accountabilities
This work will include data management and analysis, as well as the promotion, enhancement and/or facilitation of air quality related science. You will ensure the accurate ambient air quality data of a uniform national standard are available continuously to fulfill Nova Scotia\'s commitments under local, national, and international agreements and to support efforts to protect human health and the environment. You will oversee the set up, operation and maintenance of the Air Quality Unit\'s data collection network and software. You will also assist with some standard sample setting in downtown Halifax on occasion. In addition to the above, you will collaborate with and disseminate information to various air quality stakeholders including federal government, academic, environmental and industrial organizations.

Qualifications and Experience
You have a bachelor\'s degree in a related field with five years of relevant experience focused in data management. An equivalent combination of training and experience will also be considered.
As the successful candidate, knowledge and understanding of ambient air quality monitoring, basic scientific principles involving air chemistry, health, science, and technology, as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis is essential. You will also have strong data management and information technology skills and have a solid understanding of sampling and analytical methods.
Experience in conducting, interpreting and or facilitating scientific research will be key, as will a strong understanding of validation and statistical analysis of air quality data.
In addition to the technical skills above, you are detail oriented, accurate, and organized within your work and possess strong mathematical, analytical, and statistical skills with the ability to make independent judgement calls, when necessary.
You will also be technically adept at complex problem solving, troubleshooting issues with data management systems, adjusting, collecting, processing, and analyzing data from equipment and writing standard operating procedures.
You have effective Interactive communication skills (speaking, listening, writing, presenting), and knowledge and ability to interpret provincial and federal regulations governing compliance with air quality standards and protocols. Lastly, you are self-motivated, able to work independently, and have the ability to lead and/or work effectively in teams.
Experience working with GIS would be considered an asset.
