The Aide II supports the daily operations of the Perioperative Services department by providing non-clinical assistance to patients and staff. This role ensures smooth patient flow, maintains cleanliness and readiness of key areas, and supports PACU and the OR daily operations.



Summary of duties, but not limited to:



Escorts patients within the Perioperative Services areas, including to and from patient waiting areas, Block Room, Operating Rooms and PACU. Assists in providing for the patients' needs such as privacy and a safe and clean physical environment Offers physical assistance to patients with mobility or cognitive challenges, following safe patient handling practices. Assists patients in securing personal belongings in assigned locker. Maintains infection prevention protocols during the changing process, including the proper handling and disposal of soiled clothing or linens. Clearly explains the surgical preparation process to patients and responds to questions to support understanding and reduce anxiety. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe changing area, adhering to infection prevention and control standards. Works collaboratively with Medical Secretaries, nurses, Surgeons and Anesthesia to manage patient flow and minimize delays. Prepares admission and block rooms for daily use, ensuring required supplies, equipment, and linens are available and set up. Transports used instrumentation from the Soiled Utility Room to MDRC, following infection control and safety protocols. Communicates any patient concerns to appropriate Health Care Providers in a timely and respectful manner. Anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical and healthcare team to support efficient, safe patient care. Orders, receives, and stocks medical/surgical supplies and linens from MDRC and/or Stores daily to ensure availability and readiness. Ensures carts, equipment, and workstations are cleaned, organized, and fully stocked at all times. Creates and maintains a safe working environment by adhering to hospital safety, infection control, and occupational health standards. Demonstrates excellent communication skills with team members, clinical staff, and other departments. Collaborates effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of practices and procedures related to Surgical Services.

Qualifications:



Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate an asset Secondary School Diploma required 2 years of relevant experience in a medical clinic/operating room setting preferred Ability to work in a fast paced environment Patient focused, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Skilled at multi-tasking, prioritization and organization Proficient time management and problem solving skills with minimal direction Excellent oral and written communication skills Competent computer skills Superior in developing patient and workplace relations Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending and ability to push, pull and lift up to 60 pounds Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional patient care Good work and attendance record required Demonstrated WCH vision mission and values Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria. Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women's College Hospital.
