Coordinate and lead youth recreational and leisure activities as set out by the Program Manager and/or Executive Director in accordance with the Ministry of Sport and the Ontario After School Program.
Requirements:
Must be available between 3pm - 6pm every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between the program start and end dates, excluding LHYC/school closures and holidays
Must be available to work in-person within Lanark Highlands
Must have reliable transportation to and from our organization and program delivery site
Possess excellent knowledge and understanding of the challenges and strengths of the youth population in the Lanark Highlands and within Lanark County and/or an understanding of rural and low income communities
Supervise children and youth at maximum 10 to 1 ratio
Provide valid Vulnerable Sector Check
Must be 18+
General Duties:
Adhere to the LHYC Staff Code of Conduct.
Supervise and mediate youth as needed.
Bring or cultivate an understanding of youth issues and help to advocate these issues.
Provide positive leadership to youth.
Assist in youth outreach via local schools as directed.
Assist youth in problem solving and help them to resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
Support any administrative tasks that directly involve the needs of the After School Program youth or day-to-day programs.
Assist in snacks and grocery planning. Conduct food preparation and serving for your group.
Record youth feedback and ideas in a strategic way for senior staff to refer to for future programming.
Engage positively with parents, volunteers and the community at large.
Nurture participant development through fun, safe, interesting and engaging activities that teach new skills and increase physical literacy.
Deliver activities to participants that are age appropriate and reflective of cultural background, developmental stage and ability of the participants.
Programs could incorporate other elements and local needs programming such as but not limited to: Healthy eating & nutrition education, wellness & personal health education, local needs.
Must provide at least 60 minutes/day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.
Must provide one vegetable or fruit, plus one protein or whole grain food.
Support your After School Program Assistant as needed.
