Summary
As a After-School Program Staff member at the Valley YMCA, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of children in our programs. This position is essential to creating a welcoming environment where every child can learn, grow, and feel valued within their community.
We have multiple openings for our after school program with Preprimary to Grade 5 children throughout various schools in AVRCE. This position is approximately 3-4 hours from school dismissal until 5:30pm Monday to Friday. Our program runs for the 2025-26 school year from September until the end of school in June 2026. The program does not run on holidays or when the school is closed.
Those applicants with an Early Childhood Education Classification will be paid on the Nova Scotia ECE Wage Scale.
Responsibilities
Assist in the planning and implementation of educational activities for children.
Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all participants.
Support children's learning and development through engaging activities.
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's progress.
Collaborate with team members to create inclusive programs for children of diverse backgrounds.
Monitor children's behavior and provide guidance as needed.
Requirements
Experience in early childhood education or related field is preferred.
Strong caregiving skills with a passion for working with children.
Ability to educate and engage children in various activities.
Familiarity with classroom management techniques is an asset.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
