Job description and tasks




We offer a diverse range of courses, from survey courses covering pre-history to the contemporary period, to more specific topics in the field of Art History, to the Design Arts. We have both a chronological and thematic approach to the study of Art History, and believe in the importance of introducing students to the numerous arts institutions that Montreal has to offer. We encourage diverse pedagogical approaches and creative methods for student engagement.


In addition to regular teaching responsibilities, the role also includes:


Involvement in pedagogical days organized by the College Participation in departmental meetings Involvement in student-focused activities such as field trips, competitions, and year-end Graduate Exhibition. Performing other department related administrative duties





Required Qualifications




Master's degree in Art History or equivalent; Professional standing in the field of art history: experience in museum education or other institutional work, published articles, papers, books, or other critical/theoretical work; Teaching experience at the College level an asset; Knowledge of different regional and chronological art historical frameworks; Knowledge of a range of critical issues and special topics within art history (for example, Indigenous art and art history, gender and art history, theories of modernism, etc.); Broad knowledge of art historical methods and approaches; Ability to teach a wide variety of courses within the discipline including pre-historical, historical, and contemporary art; Introductory knowledge of design history or willingness to acquire it; Knowledge of major institutions, artist-run centers, and art spaces in Montreal; Excellent English communication skills essential; Teaching in the French language may be required.
