Communications 17 : Salaries typically range from $83,037 to $110,717 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:




Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office

days per week.

This role can be performed from EDC's headquarters in Ottawa. Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:





EDC's External Communications Team sits within the Corporate Communications division and is comprised of trusted advisors who elevate and protect EDC's brand and reputation. The Advisor, External Communications role reports to the Manager, External Communications, and is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications plans, engaging in proactive and reactive media relations, supporting crisis communications, advising business teams and senior leadership, developing communications materials and key messaging, and supporting key corporate communications initiatives and publications. The Advisor also works in partnership with its sister teams within Corporate Communications, the Employee Communications and Social Media teams, as well as other groups within EDC to deliver the external component of integrated communications plans.

Discipline Summary


Applies strong focus and understanding of the media environment to assess risks and opportunities for EDC. Is able to understand complex business information and develop effective communications materials for external audiences. Develops and implements integrated communications strategies to raise awareness, increase understanding, drive engagement, evaluate impact, and manage EDC's corporate reputation among target audiences. Is effective in working within an environment with multiple stakeholders, including media, industry, civil society, government, and customers. Builds and manages relationships with key reporters/media outlets.

What you will be doing:




Contributes to the development and evolution of EDC's corporate narrative. Develops talking points, key messaging, and other communications materials that reflect the organization's mandate, core values, corporate strategy, and priorities. Supports the development, project management and publishing of EDC's Integrated Annual Report and sustainability reports. Supports the management and update of EDC's Transparency and Disclosure Policy. Interprets, applies and evolves EDC's policy commitments to transparency and disclosure of EDC's business activities. Conceptualizes, develops, and implements external and/or integrated communications strategies and initiatives. This includes strategizing, planning and executing outreach with members of the media, among other stakeholders. Plays a key role in EDC's proactive media activities, with an emphasis on developing strategies and materials that reflect current affairs, EDC's priorities, and the target audience. Assesses business-related risks and opportunities from a media perspective and supports issues management activities. Coaches and trains senior leaders and experts for media opportunities. Works collaboratively with teams, including Social Media, Employee Communications, Government Relations, Corporate Outreach, and Marketing, to develop and execute integrated communications plans on key priorities. Works collaboratively with ESG teams and external vendors on the development of EDC's corporate reports. Advises senior leaders and business teams on effective communications and strategies. Identifies opportunities for improvements and enhancements to the team's processes, initiatives and services.

What we are looking for:




Completed an Undergraduate Degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field Minimum 5 years' experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism Excellent written and verbal communications skills Advanced knowledge of communications principles and practices, and experience in building and executing communications strategies and materials Understanding of the media and current affairs, with demonstrated proactive and reactive media relations experience Demonstrated ability to proactively engage media to generate coverage Bilingual in English & French

What will make you stand out:




Experience in working within a multi-stakeholder environment that includes media, industry, civil society and government. Exposure to the fields of banking/finance, commercial trade, and economics. Knowledge of and experience in corporate and sustainability report development. Experience in policy management and implementation.
