The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Advisor, Environment to join our Environment team in Port Colborne. The Advisor, Environment is responsible for ensuring the PCR meets all environmental compliance requirements, as laid out in both Provincial and Federal regulations, as well as site specific approvals. The Advisor must organize and execute all routine and non-routine environmental sampling to support compliance, complete all required reporting, prepare permit applications, and liaise with government officials on environmental matters. The Advisor is responsible for all environmental matters pertaining to water, air, land, waste (including the landfill site), as well as project work, the most significant of which is completing the Community Based Risk Assessment Action Plan. The Advisor will support operations by providing environmental guidance during HSE reviews, PHR\xe2\x80\x99s, and capital planning meetings.
Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Conduct all water quality monitoring in accordance with site permits, submit regulatory reports, trend data, and support operations in achieving compliance. Lead investigations to determine causes of all non-compliance events
  • Complete all environmental regulatory reporting, and support internal reporting through the collection of data
  • Manage requirements and relationships with community and government officials
  • Manage contractors conducting groundwater monitoring or other site assessments
  • Ensure all conditions of the site\xe2\x80\x99s Environmental Compliance Approval for the Landfill Site are met, including coordination of quarterly sampling and generation of the annual report. Act as the site representative for the waste haulage contractor, coordinate service, and review invoices.
  • Track all environmental permits for the site, coordinate amendments or new permit applications as required
  • Ensure all environmental risks are documented and understood, all controls are identified and verified, and routinely audited
  • Work within Vale\xe2\x80\x99s systems such as SAP, PowerBI, SISPAV, Stratws, developing and reporting on KPI\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Coordinate and/or provide support to the Canadian environment teams in the implementation of Global/North Atlantic sustainability initiatives and maintenance of ISO 14001 certification.
  • Maintain a site regular site presence to carry out the aforementioned work and conduct inspections and Leadership in the Field.
About You

Education:
  • Undergraduate degree is required in one of the following areas: Biology/Chemistry/Environmental Science/Hydrogeology/Hydrology)
Experience:
  • 8+ of experience in a similar subject area
Skills:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize;
