The Opportunity

The Advisor, Communications provides direct support to the Manager of North Atlantic Communications and is responsible for developing and implementing Communications strategies to protect and enhance Vale\xe2\x80\x99s reputation. The Advisor will be accountable to contribute and strengthen the development, implementation, quality, and strategy behind all communication activities across the North Atlantic Operations to build awareness, understanding and support of business objectives with internal and external stakeholders. This is a permanent position, located in Sudbury, Ontario.

Other accountabilities for this role include:

  • Responsible for creating and executing a North Atlantic-wide strategic communication plan that supports the operations goals.
  • Responsible for creating and executing communication plans in support of specific business initiatives and objectives (ie. DE&I strategy, Health and Safety, HR etc).
  • Responsible for managing a calendar of internal communications events and campaings for North Atlantic in support of business objectives.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel and advise to leaders on communications and messaging for internal and external engagements.
  • Sourcing and writing content and storytelling from across the North Atlantic business for internal communication channels, to build awareness and increase employee engagement (i.e., bulletins, social media, memos, etc)
  • Support the effective roll out and engagement of global communications programs such as cultural transformation, VPS, Safety.
  • Public Relations and Crisis Management support for internal stakeholders
  • Oversee media relations in Ontario (write press releases, prepare reactive statements, coordinate interview etc.)
  • Source, develop and post content for social media (Facebook and Linkedin )
  • Oversee budget for key Communication initiatives.
  • Represent the Manager, North Atlantic Communications when they are unavailable or away
About You

Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, English or Political Science.
  • Preference to those with a Post-secondary or Masters in these fields.
Experience:
  • 8 years of experience in similar field
  • Relationship Management experience
  • Editorial and reporting experience
  • Strategic Communications, Planning, and execution experience
  • PR and Event coordination experience
  • Managing multiple projects
  • Crisis managements
Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Aptitude for strategic decision making; crisis management and PR skills
  • Excellent event management and logistics skills
  • Strong computer software skills (word, ppt., excel, sharepoint); basic graphic design skills
  • Significant experience and skill in writing and executing communications plans
  • Strong capacity to think critically, be proactive, make decisions and problem solve
  • Ability to aptly prioritize work, meet tight deadlines and workflows as well as multi-task
