Your Opportunity:

The Scientific Writer is a provincial role, reporting to the Director, IHOT. They play an integral role in supporting the QHI portfolio in writing and producing scientific documents to be published and disseminated across multiple mediums and audiences both internal and external to Alberta Health Services. The Scientific writer works with a high degree of independence on short- and longer-term writing deliverables across a variety of quality and safety improvement initiatives relevant to QHI. The Scientific Writer: Maybe expected to provide support to all teams within the QHI portfolio. Collaborates closely with operational and medical leaders as well as the initiative leads to fully understand the scope, timelines, and deliverables of what is required from a scientific writing / editing perspective. Needs to understand complex scientific information, theories, and practices and be able to write in a clear, concise, and accurate language that can be understood by the intended audience. Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, courtesy, and respect in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

Description:

Scientific Writing Producing documents for publication according to agreed upon scope and timelines. Reviewing relevant literature and including information (with appropriate referencing) to support the development of necessary content. Providing plain language interpretation and explanation of complex data analytics, statistics, research, and data visualization methodology. Tailoring the content and flow of written work and ensuring appropriateness / readability for the intended audience(s). Pulling all relevant content together into a polished, professional product. Reviewing and amending work in response to stakeholder feedback. Stakeholder Engagement Meeting with stakeholders to plan the scope, content, and timelines for the document / publication. Updating key stakeholders with progress of deliverables and escalating risks / barriers as appropriate. Reviewing drafts with key stakeholders and eliciting feedback as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

Post graduate degree (Master\'s or higher) in health sciences field or equivalent such as health services research, knowledge translation, health economics, or communication. Experience with publishing in a variety of academic journals is an asset.
Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years post graduate experience. Highly detail oriented and ability to multitask. Must be able to work independently (self-starter) and in teams. Quantitative research experience, in addition to being highly knowledgeable about various stages and aspects of health services research. Familiarity with descriptive statistics and more advanced statistical analyses including inferential and predictive statistics. Familiarity with data visualization software and methodologies (eg Tableau). Experience within Alberta Health Services or other health organization would be an asset. Highly developed organization, communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to anticipate needs and to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work accordingly. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required in dealing with a range of situations, which may include complex, sensitive and confidential issues.
Preferred Qualifications:

Qualitative research skills, including experience using analysis software required (eg NVivo) Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint
