P. Machibroda Engineering Ltd. (PMEL) has an exciting opportunity for an

Advanced Soils Lab Technician

to join our team. PMEL is a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan based Consulting Engineering firm that specializes in providing Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering services across Western Canada. As our Advanced Soils Lab Technician, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

Responsibilities

Conducting lab testing for various geotechnical projects to produce accurate lab results to be used for design and analysis by PMEL's team and by outside clients; Preparing and setting up soil samples for testing; Collecting, reducing, plotting lab results, and preparing lab test reports from test data; Conducting testing of soils for their index parameters, including but not limited to: Atterberg Limits; Hydrometers; Sieves; Moisture Contents; Visual Classifications; Sulphate; and, Resistivity tests; Conducting more advanced lab testing of soils for engineering properties, including but not limited to the following tests: Various Triaxial tests; Unconfined; Direct Shear; Consolidation; and, Permeability tests; Logging rock core to determine strength and other engineering properties; Performing testing to ASTM/CCIL/CSA, company, and industry standards; Maintaining and servicing lab equipment to ensure they operate at an optimal level; Arranging for calibration of lab equipment and instrumentation, maintain calibration records; and, Effectively communicating lab results and observations to project engineers both verbally and in written formats.

Qualifications and Assets

A Master's degree in Engineering Technology or a related field would be an asset. Advanced knowledge and experience in Geotechnical Testing and Instrumentation is highly desirable. Hands-on experience with instrumentation testing is a significant asset. Proven experience working in a lab environment is preferred. A valid Class 5 Driver's license is required.
