The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), the Advanced Practice Leader (APL), Education, Training and Clinical Practice is responsible for providing leadership direction and support for education, training and clinical practice. The APL Alwill provide oversight and consultation to MHA staff and teams around professional development within the Mental Health and Addictions Program. The APL, Education, Training and Clinical Practice is dedicated to standardizing educational processes, developing learning programs and supporting change initiatives consistent with the MHA Program\xe2\x80\x99s Strategic Plan. He/she/they will work closely with other MHA Advanced Practice Leaders, Clinical Team Leaders, Program Educators, Quality Team and Scientific Lead of Learning Link to meet the professional development goals of the Mental Health and Addictions program. The APL, Education, Training, and Clinical Practice will provide an integrated approach to acquiring and maintaining evidence informed best practices for MHA. He/she/they will have specific skills in adult learning and educational approaches to learning, experience in leading high-performance teams and building commitment to change. The APL provides leadership, clinical support and consultation to clinical staff within the Mental Health and Addictions Program. This role is focused on advancing professional development to promote high quality evidence-based interventions through training and supervision. Responsibilities also include consultation as needed with other organizations across the province to support staff education and training including, but not exclusively, Nova Scotia Health. The APL is actively involved in committee work throughout the MHA program and has a leadership role in the organization of core education and the MHA program Orientation. The APL provides support for, and is involved in, program evaluation and research projects related to staff education and professional development. The APL will be actively engaged in competency development planning and performance development planning for individuals and staff groups as required. The APL will carry a .2 clinical practice role in the MHA program and provide treatment to clients and families as part of the APL role.

Hours of Work

8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday (some flexibility may be required)

Your Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a health profession required
  • Masters degree in health or education related field required
  • Active license in Nova Scotia to practice in health related discipline or education required
  • Minimum 5 years experience with MHA treatment modalities and models of supervision and training
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning theory
  • Minimum 5 years experience with program design, development and evaluation.
  • Training and experience in the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions Certification in Cognitive-Behavioural
  • Therapy is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Choice and Partnership approach (CAPA), an asset
  • Experience with change initiatives, building commitment to change and leading high performance teams
  • Experience in conducting research an asset
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and facilitation at the individual, small group and large group level
  • Awareness of emerging technologies and experience with e-learning application and LEAN approaches
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management and problem solving skills,
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with program design, development, program leveling and evaluation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in group facilitation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
