As an AMI engineer, you will play a key role in the design, deployment, and maintenance of AMI systems. You will work with customers, other departments, vendors, and regulators to ensure AMI data is collected and transmitted reliably and efficiently. You will also participate in pilot projects, system upgrades, process improvements, and risk management activities.

What You Get to Do:

  • Identify, assess, and implement AMI network designs for urban and rural areas within ATCO territory.
  • Manage AMI meter deployment plans, communicate with field resources and streamline the asset chain.
  • Select and procure equipment, collaborate with the vendor to ensure quality and efficiency, and stay on top of technology trends.
  • Initiate and oversee pilot projects that evaluate the performance and benefits of AMI deployment across various locations and situations.
  • Ensure that the AMI head-end system (HES)(L+G Command Center), interrogates meters, collects interval, scalar, and event data, and sends to MDM and Billing as scheduled.
  • Ensure coordination with Field Services for installation, energization, swap, and in-situ test of metering equipment. Resolve metering communication and equipment issues promptly.
  • Review Meter Data Management, Load Settlement and other control reports identifying published data discrepancies. Coordinate resolution of any data issues.
  • Manage system maintenance and implementation of system enhancements, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Participate in information system projects identified for the HES & radio backhaul system and its interfaces with other systems.
  • Ensure that new features, enhancements, and firmware are implemented correctly and tested rigorously.
  • Manage the maintenance and implementation of HES and endpoint firmware upgrades for hardware and software in coordination with system provider.
  • Participate in review and evaluation of metering, load settlement and billing processes.
  • Support any process changes that impact the AMI data collection system. Support the development and implementation of effective work processes to reflect these changes and update the process documents.
  • Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Identify key business risks and their mitigation plan for the reliability of AMI operation.
  • Communicate and provide information, documents and reports to internal and external customers and satisfy auditor\'s requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer, P.Eng. designation is required.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications is an asset.
  • Knowledge of metering and metering systems an asset.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to present findings clearly and professionally, both verbally as well as in written reports
  • A good overall understanding of the utility business is an asset: knowledge of metering, regulatory principles, and billing procedures.
  • Knowledge of AUC Rule 021 (Settlement System Code Rules) and Measurement Canada specifications is an asset.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify and prioritize regulatory requirements, internal requests and other tasks impacting the market.
  • Exceptional work ethic, with the ability to work independently and see competing priorities through to completion on time and with high quality.
  • Team player willing to help in all other aspects of work, including those outside of core responsibility.
