At Halion you will play an integral role in R&D and product development. This primarily involves development of key specialty materials and working with other members of the team to help integrate your projects into a final product.

Job Summary
:
We are looking for highly collaborative Advanced Materials Scientist who is excited to apply their knowledge in polymer chemistry towards developing novel display materials. Someone who loves learning about about physics, materials, chemistry, and polymers, through a hands-on approach. This individual should:
Thrive working in a small, fast-paced team making substantial contributions to the success of their projects
Be a generalist who can quickly learn and is willing and able to dive deep when necessary, specializing in specific topics as required
Be able to take a step back and manage a wide variety of tasks across different disciplines
Be good at collaborating with research scientists, engineers and specialists across different disciplines to drive cross-functional project development
Have a strong understanding of principles in polymer chemistry, material science, and/or general chemistry
Be able to work through problems and resolve technical challenges with minimal supervision
Have experience working in a chemical wet lab
Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing development of materials for Halion's technologies, including core R&D projects and projects related to integration of our technology into films and other mediums
R&D of core aspects of material development, from initial design concepts to creating final products
Design experiments; collect, analyze and interpret data; drive technical problem solving
Perform bench level laboratory work including some synthesis, manufacturing, assembly and product integration
Provide complex design reviews and feedback for improvement in manufacturability, helping transfer the technology from lab-scale development to commercial-scale production
Prepare reagents, operate analytical instruments and maintain a lab book
Assist with ongoing experiments and integrate results of collaborations
Deep dive into literature to troubleshoot, validate, test and improve existing procedures and to develop new ones
Write research papers, abstracts, technical reports and SOPs
Effectively communicate project updates, difficulties and plans to team members
Skills and Qualifications:
BS or BASc in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, related field, or equivalent practical experience
Able to legally work in Canada
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required. Show this off by using the word fluffy as organically as possible in your cover letter
Deep knowledge of materials, materials science and/or materials chemistry as demonstrated through hands-on experience with emulsions, polymerizations, nanoparticle synthesis, controlled polymerization reactions, polymer modifications, polymer and nanoparticle characterization
Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and changing priorities, make sound decisions under pressure, and work effectively in a team environment
Ability to rapidly learn new systems and procedures
Ability to learn from failure and move on quickly to new strategies
Fundamental knowledge of chemistry, organic chemistry, and silica chemistry
Experience with analysis techniques such as FTIR, DLS, UV Visible spectroscopy,
Fluorescence spectroscopy, SEM, TEM
Experience with projects involving electronics
Experience with projects involving thin films
