Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Nurse Executive, the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) will provide expert consultation to support the professional development and education of staff and the provision of high quality, evidence informed and safe care to complex patients across all programs at TGHC.
This position will be required to travel to all sites of Toronto Grace (Currently downtown Toronto and Scarborough)
Main Responsibilities:
The APN utilizes educational preparation, in-depth nursing knowledge and expertise in meeting the education and health needs of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations.
More specifically the APN:
Integrates extensive clinical experience with theory, research and in-depth nursing and related knowledge to support the interprofessional team in providing comprehensive, compassionate and exceptional client and family centred care
Supports professional growth and learning for interprofessional team members, students as well as for client and family learning related to health and wellness
Provides leadership, mentorship, education and support to the interprofessional team
Consults and collaborates with colleagues across sectors and at the organizational, provincial, national and international level
Leads and supports the implementation of Best Practice Guidelines and Quality Improvement initiatives by consistently seeking effective new ways to practice and improve care
Contributes to generating, synthesizing, critiquing and applying research evidence
Additional duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing (or in progress)
Undergraduate degree in Nursing
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Canadian Nurses Association Specialty Certification preferred (Critical Care or Emergency)
Expertise in management of patients on invasive mechanical ventilation as well as non-invasive respiratory support.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
3-5 years recent clinical experience in critical care, internal medicine, emergency care, geriatrics, palliative care, and other specialty areas of care (Clinical Nurse Specialist or APN experience preferred)
Knowledge of statistics and ability to analyze and synthesize data
Experience in developing clinical tools such as policies/ procedures, clinical protocols, order sets
Experience in education program planning and evaluation
Knowledge of curriculum development, and teaching learning strategies
Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, leadership, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills
Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
Microsoft Office skills
Exceptional time management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize
Self-motivated, team player, and ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
Excellent attendance record, ability to work independently.
High level of integrity and emotional intelligence
