Job Description


The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking applications from qualified individuals to fill the position of Project Assistant in the Faculty of Education\'s Literacy & Numeracy Outreach Project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the creation of materials and resources to support the delivery of education initiatives related to the project
  • Help create and deliver play-based learning programs for parents and children
  • Support the Project Manager with administrative duties associated with the summer literacy & numeracy camp program, early childhood outreach program and afterschool tutoring program
  • Make on-site visits to program locations to support student staff including the transportation of books and materials
  • Participate in training and program development sessions
  • Help collect data by providing participants with surveys created by our program evaluation team
  • Assist in the ordering, purchasing, and photocopying of program material
  • Take notes at meetings, and draft minutes for the Project Manager to review
  • Assist the Project Manager in the regular updating of the Literacy Outreach Project website
  • Help in the creation of the monthly project newsletter, the \xe2\x80\x9cElemeno Press\xe2\x80\x9d
  • Organize program resources stored in the Education Learning Commons, file documents
  • Assist in the delivery of one-to-one afterschool tutoring programs, act as a substitute as and when needed
  • Take part in regular professional development and attend meetings with partner organizations
  • Supervise student interns in the absence of the Project Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful candidate(s) will have a diploma in a related field. A Bachelor of Education degree would be considered an asset
  • A specialization in Early Learning and/or an understanding of early literacy, early numeracy and play pedagogy would be considered an asset
  • Excellent organizational skills are required
  • Experience working for a community outreach organization or project would be considered an asset
  • The candidate must be able to travel to local school(s). A valid driver\'s license is required
  • Training in First Aid, Food Handling and Non-Violent Crisis intervention would be considered an asset
