LONDON PUBLIC LIBRARY is looking for a talented individual to join our team as:

Administrator, Security Services & Facility Services



This a Permanent Full-Time opportunity.



PURPOSE OF THE ROLE



Reporting to the Director, Public Services, this position is responsible for effective delivery of security services, ensuring that building and staff safety documents and procedures are current; developing evacuation plans; and conducting annual fire drills for 16 facilities.

Work with the Library's contracted Security Company, to establish and drive the training and orientation of guards for the Central Library, Crouch and East London Library and other locations as needed Maintain current knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, etc. related to role of Security. This includes, but is not limited to the Trespass to Property Act; fire safety legislation such as Fire Protection and Prevention Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians and Disabilities Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Work with the contracted Security Supervisor to promote a culture of exceptional customer service; ensure appropriate staffing levels are in place and arrange for ad-hoc security coverage as requested by Director/Managers Public Service. Provide feedback to contracted Security Supervisor on Security staff conduct and performance In collaboration with contracted Security Company, conduct interview of candidates for Security Supervisor position Schedule regular meetings with contracted Security Company and Site Supervisor Regularly reviews and updates Post Orders in collaboration with contracted Security Company Review all Incident Reports; provide input into banning length and work with Administrative Assistant on deliverables of paperwork, Library Intranet, etc. May assist contracted Security staff with high priority Incident calls Responds to after hour and weekend calls from contracted Security Services and monitoring contractors Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation; promotes a culture of safety Contribute to the identification and recommendation of policies, procedures and practices for security services, building safety, staff and public safety Liaise and work with internal and external groups on accomplishment of deliverables, including, but not limited to:
o the Library's Joint Health & Safety Committee;

o the Wolf Performance Hall and Meetings and Events services staff for security needs;

o the Manager, Facility Services on building alarms, fire panels et al.

o the Director of IT and IT Department on ensuring Library's technology standards related to security and surveillance, et al;

o the Financial Services Department on billing and invoicing for contracted services;

o Citi Plaza staff on security matters, fire drills and evacuation, etc.;

o the Human Resources Department in developing staff safety plans, and

o library monitoring companies and building security system providers to ensure all systems are maintained and kept up to date with preventative maintenance needs

Contributes to the Library's emergency preparedness planning process Works with Administration to track annual metrics Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression through practice and interactions with security guards, library employees, tenants, partners, volunteers, and members of the public Attends internal and external meetings as required

Education



Undergraduate degree or College Diploma with a focus in Law Enforcement, Police Foundations or Law and Security Administration or a combination of education and related work experience Knowledge of Fire Protection and Prevention Act, and other applicable legislations such as Building and Safety standards Having CPTED training would be an asset (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) Having First Aid and Mental Health training would be an asset

Experience:



Minimum 3 years experience in the field of security or law enforcement Some Supervisory experience would be beneficial Demonstrated experience in utilizing a variety of software and database tools (e.g. Excel, Word) Current Class G Driver's License Must be able to work varying work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays Must be able to travel to other Library locations

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of various social issues, including poverty, addiction, mental health and homelessness as it relates to security services. Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including conflict resolution, de-escalation, problem solving, decision making and situational assessment

Technical



Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, and other applicable legislations such as Building and Safety standards. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in office and facility/project management applications. Knowledge of crisis intervention and able to handle emergency situations Ability to compile accurate information and prepare effective reports etc

Other



Valid driver's license.

Working Hours:



Usually work a standard 35-hour week.

This position works 100% on site to be able to support the needs of the London Public Library.



This is an

position from the Bargaining unit.

Salary:



$36.675 - $43.343 per hour. Salary to commensurate with education and experience.
