Your Opportunity:

This position provides primary secretarial and clerical support to the Chief and Chair of the Ophthalmology Department within an administrative setting and ensures the effective operation of all aspects of the Physician\'s clinical practice. This position will prepare all correspondence, reports and medical records and managing patient communications while abiding by all AHS confidentiality guidelines. The position will assist patients in scheduling appointments and surgeries, transcribe letters to referring physicians, process and reconcile AHCIP billings, assist in coordinating research activities, maintain an effective filing system, manage the Physician\'s calendar, travel arrangements, and coordinate meetings including preparing agendas and taking minutes. The position will interface regularly with on-site programs and departments, other hospitals (in and out of Alberta Health Services), pharmaceutical representatives, the University of Alberta, and off-site diagnostic testing facilities. Multi-tasking, attention to detail and good communication skills are required.

Required Qualifications:

Some post-secondary education. Additional Required Qualifications:

High school diploma supplemented by a post-secondary diploma in Office Management/ Administration and successful completion of a Medical Terminology program is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 3-5 year related experience in Surgery and/or Ophthalmology. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Outlook, eClinician, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Keyboarding speed of 50 wpm is required. Must be capable of dicta-typing at the consistent speed of 30 wpm. Must have experience processing AHC billings for patient visits and surgeries. Experience in booking surgical patients is required. Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills are essential. A self-directed and highly motivated individual capable of completing all tasks required under minimal supervision. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required. A minimum 3 years of experience in a high volume, complex specialty clinic/medical office practice is also required. *Please note - only candidates who submit a current resume will be considered for an interview.
