Job Summary
The Department of Economics is an academic department in the Faculty of Social Sciences and has a wide variety of programs for undergraduate and graduate students. In particular, it has a large international enrolment in its undergraduate programs.


Reporting to the Assistant to the Chair, this position is the first point of contact for the department. This position is responsible for answering and directing inquiries pertaining to the department, handling the smooth management of day-to-day office procedures, providing undergraduate program support to both students and the undergraduate advisor, distributing information via the web and social media, and providing detailed administrative support to students, faculty, staff, departmental administrators, and visitors to the department.


Job Requirements

Experience:




This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to 1 year of experience working within a comparable environment.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to problem solve by using judgement, independent thinking and/or analysis. Ability to interpret policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences. Experience composing various business communications such as emails, memos, and reports. Experience scheduling meetings and calendar coordination. Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information. Experience with event planning and coordination. Proficiency with computer applications (i.e., MS-Office Suite, Adobe Create Suite, content management systems). Knowledge of BANNER, FAST, Cascade and Connect considered an asset Familiarity with UVic programs, policies, procedures and business systems considered an asset




Specialized Knowledge/Education:




Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
