The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $64,629- $67,486 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.
  • Performance range: $71,504 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) plays a central role in shaping and implementing UVic's international identity, vision, and strategy. Towards this end, OGE develops, promotes and supports global partnerships, alliances, and initiatives that advance UVic's strategic goals for internationalization. OGE provides support to UVic's senior executive team, deans, faculty and staff in furthering their international aspirations and activities. OGE facilitates international relations, promotes awareness, maintains key relationships, and supports senior executive outbound international travel, hosts inbound delegations, leads projects and programs that enhance UVic's diverse intercultural and global environment contributing to UVic's worldwide reputation as a leading research university. OGE also manages international travel safety in line with UVic's Off-Campus Activity Risk Management Policy and plays a significant role in coordinating responses to major international incidents.
Position's purpose/function:
  • Provide primary administrative support to the Associate Vice-President, Global Engagement (AVPGE) and Director, Global Engagement.
  • Provide leadership to the OGE Admin staff and ensures that the operational needs of OGE are being met.
Job Requirements
Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with advanced attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced calendaring, word processing and spreadsheet skills; understanding of and ability to learn specialized software or programs
  • Ability to think strategically and to exercise independent judgment within the parameters of the responsibilities of the office and the work of the AVPGE/Director
  • High level of self-direction, with an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with the capability to back-up in other executive areas of responsibility as necessary
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public, exercising tact and good judgment and maintaining confidentiality
  • Flexible in adapting to changing work priorities and able to work in an environment with constant interruptions; able to work under pressure, processing a large volume of work and adhering to multiple deadlines
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment
Specialized Knowledge/ Education:
  • Certificate or diploma in office or business administration
  • Understanding of office operations, human resources, accounting, purchasing
  • Familiarity with political, social or cultural issues on campus, particularly those that may directly impact OGE
  • Knowledge of the regulations, procedures, policies of the University
Experience:
  • 3-5 years' experience in an administrative role
  • Experience must include:
  • Providing administrative services to senior staff and office
  • Handling personal, confidential and highly sensitive information
  • Extensive experience effectively navigating and using a variety of office equipment, software and programs including (MS office, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)
Preference may be given for experience in:
  • Post-secondary environment
  • Using large, complex systems (e.g. UVic Careers, FAST, Banner, FAMIS or equivalents)
