About Us

The Department of Advanced Education is responsible for all post-secondary education related matters in Nova Scotia. This includes the Nova Scotia Student Assistance Office and Post-Secondary Accessibility Services as well as oversight over the ten universities, Nova Scotia Community College, private career colleges, and language schools.

This positions will support the Service Delivery and Operations and Strategy, Policy and Partnerships branches of the Department of Advanced Education.

About Our Opportunity

As the Administrative Assistant, you will serve as a main point of contact and quality control for a large volume of inquiries (including ministerial), providing quality assurance of documents. Working under minimal supervision, you will perform a wide range of complex secretarial and admin support duties of a responsible and confidential nature. You will provide senior level support, undertaking more complex administrative assignments.

As the Administrative Assistant, you will report to the respective Executive Director and support the associated branch operations.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you completed a 1-year business course with 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

You are resourceful, reliable, have attention to detail and have a high degree of organizational skills. You will be required to determine priorities with minimal supervision in a busy environment. You possess sound knowledge of office practices and procedures and a comprehensive knowledge of departmental functions.

You are an exceptional communicator (written and verbal) with strong time management skills. You have sound judgement and initiative, often working independently to resolve administrative issues, selecting alternative courses of action.

A high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity and discretion is essential.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This competition is for two (2) permanent employment opportunities; one (1) reporting to the Executive Director Strategy, Policy & Partnerships and one (1) reporting to the Executive Director Service Delivery & Operations.

Pay Grade: CL 22

Salary Range: $1,924.59 - $2,128.70 Bi-Weekly
