Consumer Credit (Personal Lending/Mortgage Broker Services) is part of Meridian's Risk Management function. The Department is accountable for providing prompt adjudication/administration and credit coaching to all Retail channels (Branch/Digital, MMS, Broker) for Member retail credit needs including adjudication of the Meridian's Visa credit card portfolio.
As an Adjudicator, Consumer Credit, you will provide exceptional service to all Retail lending channels (Branch/Digital, MMS, Broker) through prompt analysis, approval and/or direction for all credit applications originated and submitted.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Exercise sound and consistent retail underwriting practices, including utilization of the Risk Based Lending principles through a creative and proactive approach to credit granting.
  • Advise all Meridian staff and Mortgage Brokers on the interpretation of existing lending policies and structure of applications.
  • Engage in mortgage application issue resolution to find appropriate solutions for both Members and Meridian, while maintaining high quality relationships.
  • Manage fluctuating work volumes to effectively meet short timelines while maintaining a high level of credit quality within a volatile real estate market.
  • Perform due diligence on all confirmations, appraisals and supporting documentation as needed.
  • Participate in the onboarding and initial training of new Adjudicators, and any other cross functional training as required.
  • Help identify retail credit policy gaps and process deficiencies and recommend changes for improvement with a focus on mortgage lending.
  • Support and provide direction for escalations to Condition Fulfillment Team as required.
  • Remain informed of changes to lending practices within the marketplace and of changes to the lending practices of our private and government High Ratio Insurers.
  • Remain informed of industry trends with respect to misrepresentation and apply thorough due diligence to the credit files and supporting documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills, with demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Ability to employ good tact, judgment and objectivity.
  • Ability to present logical well drafted recommendations for presentation to higher levels of authority as well as peers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with our Retail partners in meeting or exceeding the needs of our Members.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Positive team player.
  • In depth knowledge of High Ratio providers underwriting guidelines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced team environment, under tight timelines
Education, Designations, Training, and Experience:
Minimum of three years' experience in underwriting/adjudication in a financial services environment, in particular areas such as:
  • Lending policies and restrictions with a focus on mortgage lending
  • Meridian Product knowledge and parameters
  • Knowledge and interpretation of regulatory and legislative requirements for lending
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of Risk Based Lending principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of Business Financial Statements and analyzing business income.
Salary Range: CAD $52,000 to $75,000 annually.
Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role's requirements may be placed higher within the range. Your recruiter will share more information about our total rewards package during the hiring process.
Office Location: 3330 Bloor Street West, Toronto OR 75 Corporate Park Drive, St. Catharines. This is a hybrid work opportunity.
