Your Opportunity:Fort McMurray Addiction and Mental Health Services is looking for an experienced Addictions Counselor who is passionate about providing leading care and whom is looking to make a difference in the lives of Albertans and those residing in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. As a member of an interdisciplinary Addiction and Mental Health Crisis Team in Fort McMurray, you will effectively provide crisis intervention and support to individuals presenting to Emergency Department and admitted to medical units with primary addiction and/or mental health concerns by efficiently screening, assessing, triaging, consulting, and referring the patient to the appropriate resources, clinicians and healthcare professionals. The position requires the ability to work independently with occasional review, consultation and evaluation from a Manager or Supervisor. The incumbent must work independently with a high degree of judgment and must be able to work effectively as part of an inter-professional team and commit to strengthening team dynamics by actively facilitating inter-professional collaboration to enhance patient health outcomes. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities. Additional Required Qualifications:As required. Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 2 years working in an Addiction and Mental Health setting. Minimum 1 year direct crisis experience. Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Consent and Capacity, and other legislation relevant to the practice of psychiatric/mental health nursing is required.
