The Addictions Counsellor will provide culturally appropriate and trauma-informed support to Indigenous individuals experiencing addictions. This role involves both in-shelter support and mobile outreach to connect with clients in various locations within the City of Edmonton.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
o
Conduct assessments to determine client needs and identify relevant supports and referrals.
o
Provide mobile addictions counselling, meeting clients where they are at, building relationships, and offering psychoeducation and skills development.
o
Facilitate connections to appropriate detox and treatment programs, including Indigenous-specific services.
o
Organize and provide transportation to programming and appointments.
o
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including a Registered Social Worker, Psychologist, and Elders to deliver comprehensive support.
o
Offer culturally specific supports, including access to ceremonies, sweats, and other traditional practices.
o
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions and progress.
o
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
o
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
o
Certification as an Addictions Counsellor or equivalent.
o
Experience may be considered in place of education.
o
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
o
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
o
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
o
Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration is an asset.
o
Experience working with Indigenous populations and understanding of Indigenous cultures and practices.
o
Experience in mobile outreach or community-based settings.
o
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
o
Proficiency in Cree or other Indigenous languages is an asset.
o
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Shelter will operate 24/7, This position works evenings, weekends, and holidays. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
