The Adaptive Learning Program Assistant will be required to work Saturdays from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.



Position Summary



Reporting to the Manager, Music School, the Adaptive Learning Program Assistant is a part-time teaching position that supports the operations of the Adaptive Learning Lab within Dixon Hall's Music School. The Adaptive Learning Program Assistant is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Lab, planning and delivering adaptive learning classes for individuals and groups, and scheduling programs in alignment with the Music School calendar. The Adaptive Learning Program Assistant also helps to develop and implement learning plans, supports the creation of communication tools for the Lab, and fosters a welcoming, professional, and supportive environment for families and students.



Duties and Responsibilities



General ResponsibilitiesOn Saturdays between 11am-4pm provide half hour one-on-one adapted music lessons or music therapy to students age 4 and up (to adult) who have mental, physical, and/or learning disabilities. I.e. autism, down's syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia meet with families for consultations during the intake process. Provide an educational, interesting, and enjoyable experience of music and learning for every student. Provide a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment for program clients. Monitors student progress and adjusting teaching methods and materials when necessary Punctually attends all scheduled lessons, classes or rehearsals. Participating, when possible, in developing and implementing curriculum ideas. Knowledge of adaptive learning and Music Therapy techniques. Adhere to all agency guidelines and policies and attending appropriate staff meetings and workshops when possible. Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events.

Administrative ResponsibilitiesMaintain weekly attendance records of students. Record hours as they are worked each day. Submit requests to purchase teaching materials that are required to the Manager. Notify the Music School Manager immediately when a student is late arriving for a lesson or an event. Notify the Music School Manager about teaching absences as much in advance as possible Other duties as required

QualificationsPost-secondary degree in Music Therapy. Knowledge of Music Pedagogy, teaching methods and materials. Experience teaching/working in a diverse, multi-cultural environment; preference given to those with not-for-profit experience. Superior organization, analytical, and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail. Strong oral and written English language communication skills; fluency in additional languages, relevant to the communities of service, will be considered an asset. Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer. Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a 'Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.

Working ConditionsLesson are scheduled for weekday evenings and/or Saturdays during the day Students are provided in-person lessons in individual studios located in an accessible, climate-controlled school facility located on the upper floors of a building shared with other Dixon Hall programs Teaching spaces illuminated with a combination of natural, LED, and fluorescent lighting sources. Occasionally required to be available for recitals, performances, and other events that occur outside of the regular teaching schedule

Physical and Sensory DemandsAble to teach and support students in 30-minute lessons within a 5 hour shift. Able to tolerate teaching in a small studio/room (80 square feet/7.43 square meters) while in close contact with students.
