The Peer Specialist draws on their own skills and experiences as a consumer of Mental Health Services and with personal experience and insight into the impacts of gender-based violence to provide peer-based support, advocacy and non-clinical counselling services to clients of the Community Mental Health Program. The Peer Specialist functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team that provides services to clients who have experienced gender-based violence (GBV) enabling them to maintain a level of optimal functioning and to achieve their vocational goals.

REQUIREMENTS:




Minimum two (2) year Post Secondary School Diploma in Social Service Work Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a mental health program Personal experience and insight into the impacts of gender-based violence, with the ability to draw on this experience in a supportive, non-judgmental and empowering way Experience working in a counseling capacity or in a community mental health program setting or related field(s) Experience working with Community Advisory Committees and volunteers Experience living and/or working in the Mental Health System or with individuals who have experienced gender-based violence Valid G Driver's License (or equivalent) Has an available, safe vehicle, and clean driver's license record three (3) years prior to date of hire Carries appropriate automobile liability insurance of no less than $2,000,000 Experience in a team-oriented environment an asset Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Knowledge of Renfrew County Proficiency in the use of computer applications and software programs Ability to function with groups of clients as well as individuals Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement. Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
