Job Description

Regular, Part-Time: Tuesday-Thursday, 1130am-330pm

ICMH provides person centered, recovery oriented, and psycho-social rehabilitation (PSR) informed-care across a spectrum of services including housing and housing supports, group and one-on-one programming, and in Licensed Care settings.

The Bridge and Seniors programs are day programs which focus on individual and group skills development; by helping individuals set and achieve personal goals focused on life skills, social supports, community involvement and community integration. The Bridge program is for adults (19 years of age or older) who are experiencing mental health issues in addition to cognitive impairment. The Seniors group is for adults (age 65 or older) whom experience mental health challenges. These programs are intended to support the development of skills and confidence enabling client transition into their community at large.

Job Summary



The Activity Worker, as a member of an integrated, collaborative team, works with clients individually and as a group to actively participate in recovery-oriented activities including social supports, life skills and community involvement.

Job Duties



Implements and participates in activation, life skills, recreational, and/or social activities designed to meet the needs of clients, providing demonstrations as required. Adapts and modifies established activities to meet the special needs of clients.

Observes clients and their environments, and reports unsafe conditions and behavioural, physical, and/or cognitive changes to supervisor. Promotes client participation in activities, and provides feedback regarding the performance and progress of clients.

Accompanies clients on outings and community integration, prioritizing safety and learning skills of being in the community (i.e. taking transportation, street safety, etc.)

Receives client feedback, inquiries, and complaints, and responds as required.

Sets up furnishings and equipment for activities.

Maintains an inventory of equipment, tools, and materials related to activities.

Supports clients to follow hygiene and health and safety protocols as needed with verbal prompting and reminders

Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, progress reports, activity participation reports, observation reports, and client activity profiles.

Provides support with clients to work on pre-established goals

Refers clients to other programs/services and provides information regarding available resources in collaboration with program coordinator.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Education, Training, and Experience



QUALIFICATIONS



Grade 12

Completion of an Activity Assistant Program, or Disability Studies Diploma

Certificates in CPR and First Aid & Food Safe

Recent, related experience of one year Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Or other Qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work

OTHER REQUIREMENTS



Clear criminal record check through the Ministry of Justice

Negative TB Test

Up-to-date Immunizations

Skills & Abilities



Knowledge of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation principles

Understanding of the impact of mental illness on behavior and functioning

Ability to motivate clients to achieve goals

Ability to model appropriate and respectful social behavior to clients

Awareness of appropriate boundaries when working with vulnerable individuals

Understanding of the impacts of stigma, infantilization, and discrimination on people with cognitive impairment and people living with mental health conditions.

Belief that all individuals have capacity to learn, change and grow with the rights supports

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Ability to introduce and teach crafts, games etc.

Ability to introduce and role model life skills (i.e. hygiene, conversation skills, problem solving, making decisions, etc.)

Ability to follow and provide feedback on client-specific service plans

Ability to adapt approach based on individual client goal and needs

Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients

Ability to organize and prioritize

Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $27.92-$29.60 per hour
