Glen Hill Terrace - 160 bed Long Term Care facility is currently recruiting for part time and casual Activity Aides
Glen Hill Terrace Christian Homes is a not-for-profit, faith-based organization dedicated to serving seniors with compassion, dignity and respect. We are currently seeking engaged, creative and resident-focused Activity Aides (Part-Time and Casual) to join our Programs team at our Whitby long-term care location.
As an Activity Aide, you will help create meaningful, person-centred recreation experiences that support residents' physical, cognitive, emotional, social and spiritual well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Activity Aide will:
Plan, lead and assist with recreation and leisure programs (including group activities and outings) in accordance with residents' assessed needs, preferences and care plans
Contribute to and update resident activity care plans and assigned home area activity calendars
Support residents living with dementia through appropriate, engaging programming
Maintain accurate and complete documentation related to program planning, delivery and resident participation
Use recreation equipment safely and appropriately and follow all corporate policies and procedures
Participate in evaluating programs and services to ensure they are effective, person-centred and aligned with best practices in therapeutic recreation
Seek guidance from the Program Manager when resident needs exceed scope of practice or experience
Maintain accountability for completion of assigned audits and support compliance with applicable Ministry of Long-Term Care standards and regulations
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field from a recognized college or university
Experience in long-term care or with older adults (2 years preferred)
Knowledge of programming needs for older adults, including those living with dementia
Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to build positive relationships with residents, families and team members
Ability to follow direction, work effectively within an interprofessional team, and demonstrate excellent customer service
Basic computer skills
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
Additional Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to provide:
A current Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to the Employer; and
Acceptable proof of COVID-19 vaccination, in accordance with our company's Coronavirus Immunization Policy.
