Active Transportation Facilitator


12 Week Contract Position




The Kentville Parks and Recreation Department provides top quality recreational programs and


services for Kentville and area residents and is looking for an adventurous and enthusiastic


employee to help us keep our commitment to the community. If you are an energetic, self-

What is Active Transportation?

Active transportation is a broad term that refers to all forms of human powered or non-

motorized transportation. This includes walking, the use of assisted devices such as


wheelchairs, cycling, and also skateboarding, rollerblading, etc. Seasonal activities like skiing,


canoeing, and kayaking are also considered active transportation.




Recognizing the importance of safe and enjoyable transportation, the Town of Kentville has


already made many investments into trails and amenities, while our Active Transportation Plan


(https://kentville.ca/ActiveTransportation) will provide an all-encompassing strategy to connect


these trails with active transportation facilities. Incorporating education, equity and playfulness


into this strategy will ensure that it benefits all users.




Your Opportunity:

The Town of Kentville Department of Parks Recreation is seeking candidates to fill the following


facilitator position:




Active Transportation Facilitator

Reporting to the Active Living Community Coordinator and working closely with the Parks and


Recreation Team, the Active Transportation Facilitator will be assisting with the implementation


of the Town of Kentville Active Transportation Plan through delivery of fun and educational


cycling, walking, and rolling opportunities to youth, seniors, families, and the broader


community using a decentralized model. Working as part of a team and independently, the


Active Transportation Facilitator will work to bring active transportation opportunities to the


many neighborhoods, parks and trails that exist in the Town of Kentville. Outreach is key and


we want you to meet as many new and different people as you can over the summer/fall


months while exposing members of the community to the many benefits of active


transportation, engaging in conversation, listening to stories, and supporting community growth


and cohesion. Using play as your tool for engagement you will work to address larger


community issues, such as accessibility, homelessness, and food insecurity.





This position requires an individual who is up for learning new skills, sharing knowledge,


passionate about play and playfulness, and a desire to listen and engage in meaningful


conversations.




We are looking for individuals who are:


An active transportation advocate and enthusiast


Experienced in program planning and delivery;


Enthusiastic, organized, and a motivated self-starter;


A creative problem solver and able to adapt quickly;


A passionate believer and implementer of inclusive practices;


Willing to learn and be a part of a dynamic team and working in partnership with


community organizations;


Experienced in mentoring and teaching leadership skills is an asset;


Aware of your own privilege and how you are using it to help others;


Passionate about delivering thoughtful and impactful recreation opportunities;


Willing to have fun and play;


Flexible and available to work evenings and weekends as needed.





Work Status: Seasonal, Full Time (non-unionized)


Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, with some weekend and evening shifts as required


Work Location: Town of Kentville Parks and Recreation office, recreation facilities, and outdoor


spaces


Compensation: $18.00/hr


Employment Duration: May to September




Professional development opportunities may also be made available throughout the summer.
