Position Summary:
The Activationist at Wexford Residence is responsible for providing recreational programs to a group of residents and individual residents, under the direction of the Director of Programs and Services. The Activationist is responsible for providing these programs in a safe and competent manner within their scope of practice.
The Activationist demonstrates competence at the current level of knowledge of their practice, seeks help and guidance when unable to perform competently, refrains from practicing beyond their competence and is accountable for their own actions, while maintaining professional boundaries.
Responsibilities
Deliver activation programs and activities to meet the resident's physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs, independently and in a team environment.
Participation in the development of monthly program schedules.
Familiar with residents' Resident Programs admission interview assessment and care plan to implement appropriate programs and activities.
Maintain program attendance, activity records and documentation according to department policy and Compliance Standards.
Promote and communicate information about activities to residents and families.
Provide input into the development and revision of programs/schedules
Follow rules and regulations set out by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario regarding the liquor license for social pub.
Implement measures to minimize aggressive behaviour as per resident care plan.
Encourage independence and self-care as appropriate.
Implement preventative infection control measures.
Ensure activities are carried out in a manner to reduce risk of injury to resident and staff.
Maintain a positive and harmonious relationship with all members of the Wexford community.
Report observations regarding residents to RN/RPN as required.
Provide input for care plans and care conferences.
Attend and participate in departmental and interdepartmental meetings.
Familiar with resident diets to assist with refreshments and/or at meals.
Assist with meal service in dining room and circulate an afternoon nourishment cart, as required.
Provide direction to volunteers and students working in the Programs Department.
Participate in The Wexford's Health and Safety & WHMIS program.
Participate in in-service education as required.
Participate in The Wexford's CQI program.
Participate in other work-related duties as outlined.
QUALIFICATIONS
A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university or are enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field. This diploma or degree must be completed within three years of hire date.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one to one, small group and large group activation programs.
Experience in Long-Term Care.
Experience in planning and implementing community events.
Intermediate Computer skills - experience with Point Click Care, RAI/MDS, and Activity Pro an asset.
SMART SERVE Certification.
Montessori for Dementia Training an asset.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Able to fulfill the physical demands of the position.
A valid Vulnerable Sector Check for Employment completed by your local Police Department - No older than 6 months.
Two-step TB test or chest x-ray - No older than 6 months this has to be fill out within 14 days of hire*.
