We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Recreation Aide to join our team in providing enriching activities for residents in a nursing home setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for enhancing the quality of life for seniors, particularly those with dementia and other cognitive impairments. This role involves engaging residents in various recreational activities, fostering social interaction, and promoting overall well-being.
Reporting to the Director of Life Enrichment, Activation assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Director of Life Enrichment & Executive Director;
Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity
Complete other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills Required:
Post-secondary training in recreation leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or other related field from a community College level of certification.
Solid knowledge of computers and recreation computer systems.
Approximately 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Good written and verbal English language skills.
Knowledgeable of the Health and Safety regulations.
Maintains a current certificate in CPR/First Aid.
Food Handler's Certificate an asset.
Valid driver's license.
Experience
Previous experience in senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes is preferred.
Familiarity with dementia care practices is a plus.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.
Experience in caregiving or working with individuals with disabilities is advantageous.
A positive attitude, patience, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of seniors are essential qualities for this role.
