Key goals of the CSU are to help identify and implement strategies that effectively support collection development that is relevant to the teaching and research needs of the University of Alberta community; to build a single collection of information resources that are discoverable and accessible in a timely manner; and, to build a collection that is based on the analysis of a variety of forms of evidence that allow the University of Alberta Library to better respond to user-driven needs.PositionThe University of Alberta Libraries seeks an Acquisition & Collection Support Assistant with an excellent customer service orientation and strong ability to problem solve in a technological environment. The successful candidate thrives in a dynamic work environment that is highly dependent on teamwork. The position is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the acquisition of electronic products, collection management, license administration, and assessment support. This is a specialized position requiring independent research, judgment, and frequent contact with Library staff and library suppliers. The position requires an individual who can assess new situations, adapt quickly, and suggest procedural changes as the need arises.Duties

  • Acquisition and maintenance of print and electronic resources acquired by the Library. Duties include:
  • Initial investigation and selection of appropriate vendors, order placement and creation/maintenance of order records and establishing/troubleshooting online access
  • Coordinates EzProxy configuration updates
  • Ongoing tracking and investigation of payments
  • Arranging for changes in content or usage, changes to online providers and/or subscription periods
  • Problem solving and investigation of payment and subscription questions from publishers and vendors
  • Monitors and analyzes vendor performance; makes recommendations for the amendment/development of procedures and policies to improve turnaround time and expedite the receipt of or access to material, and payment of invoices
  • Provides customer service for unit libraries, functioning as a liaison between Collection Strategies Unit, Cataloguing Strategies, unit libraries and the publishers and vendors of information resources including serials, databases, ebooks and other electronic formats
  • Communicates with vendors to foster mutual understanding, explain internal policy/procedures, clarify information/services, and to resolve any problems with receipt of material, access, invoicing and payment
  • Uses reports and records from PeopleSoft to identify and analyze problems with invoicing, receipts and payments
  • Creates and maintains Database Assets, including basic metadata, using LibGuides
  • Retrieve usage statistics for journals, ebooks, and databases from JUSP and publisher sites, and ensure quality and consistency of data
  • Performs other related duties
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education; Library and Information Technology preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • 2 years of related library experience required
  • Excellent knowledge of the scholarly publishing industry and library acquisitions practices
  • Computer proficiency using desktop software (i.e. MS Office - Word, Excel and Access), web-based services (i.e. Gmail and Google Drive), internet and database search techniques, the Libraries\' ILS system and a demonstrated aptitude for working in an electronic environment
  • Highly developed written, verbal and technical skills; ability to clearly describe complex situations is essential
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials is an asset
