Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Finance Director, the Accountant is responsible for maintaining the General Ledger and subledgers with stated goal of achieving financial close within 3 weeks (15 working days) of month end initially with the target shifting to 2 weeks (10 working days) of month end within 12 months of assuming the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Working within the Finance Team the position is responsible for
Coordinates with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll staff to ensure timely journal posting to achieve financial close bringing to the attention of the Finance Director any issues.
Ensures government revenues are correctly recognized and expressed as either earned or unearned in the Financial Statements.
Produces Month-end and Quarter End accruals necessary for the financial close.
Produces a Balance Sheet monthly and quarterly.
Produces the Term Deposit Summary and Campaign Report quarterly
Completes Bank reconciliations
Completes Interfund balance reconciliation
Completes Benefit Expense Allocations and reconciliations
Reports on Cash Balances and makes recommendations on transfer of balances.
Maintain fixed asset listings and inventory master data
Prepares year-end internal reports
Prepares annual audit schedules
Provides relief coverage when the Director is absent.
Overseeing and preparing monthly financial statements.
Overseeing monthly account reconciliations including investigating discrepancies.
Identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities including documenting of controls.
Leading and assisting with year-end closing and external auditors on all requirements.

Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
College/bachelor's degree in accounting is an asset
1 - 2 years' experience
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current applicable legislation and professional standards.
Ability to analyze, plan and manage within fiscal, physical, and human resource constraints
Working knowledge of computerized financial and accounting systems.
Strong skills with Microsoft Office programs with emphasis in Excel
Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal and productive working relationships and to communicate in a cooperative and responsive manner.
Thrive in a Team environment.
Demonstrated initiative in keeping abreast of advances in accounting and information technology services through active participation in continuing education and professional self-development.
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check
Working Conditions
:
Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, office-based
Fast-paced work requires attention to detail while subject to frequent interruptions

Pay: $29.80-$36.69 per hour
