Purpose: The University Services Centre (USC) plays a critical role in ensuring York University\'s commitment to Service Excellence. The USC brings together talent and expertise from across administration functions internal and external to York, into one customer-focused service delivery entity. The USC focuses on developing and delivering services to York that are consistent, streamlined, and customer-centric using technology and simplified processes. The USC is built on a commitment to customer service excellence, accountability, and trust, enabled by a strong service-oriented culture, data-driven practice, and simplified processes. The Accounts Receivable and General Accounting Clerk is responsible for providing financial, administrative, clerical and client services as it pertains to the accurate and timely processing and collection of all accounts receivable transactions according to the USC service level commitments to its clients. The role is also responsible for financial transactions related to banking, deposits, cheques and similar related transactions. Supporting the USC\'s commitment to service excellence, the Accounts Receivable and General Accounting Clerk holistically investigates and responds to client inquiries in a responsive, courteous and professional manner to provide exceptional service to customers, faculty, staff, and students in a high-volume environment.
Education: College diploma in relevant field such as accounting, business administration, etc. or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience: Two (2) years\' relevant experience in accounts payable or accounts receivable using computerized financial systems and databases such as General Ledger, Quickbooks, etc.
Skills: Effective time management and organizational skills. Excellent customer service skills. Attention to detail.Initiative. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work under pressure of tight deadlines and balance conflicting priorities. Ability to exercise sound judgement to escalate issues to managers as required. Knowledge of accounts receivable systems, banking, finance systems, deposits, journal entry and accounting principles and controls. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel (including lookup functions and formulas) and strong computer skills (Word, Outlook, etc.).
