Terra Archaeology Ltd. is a well-established consulting firm specializing in cultural resource management and archaeological services throughout British Columbia. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Technician to join our team in Victoria, BC.
Position Overview:
The Accounting Technician plays a key role in supporting the Finance team by maintaining
accurate records related to time and expense tracking, billing, accounts receivable and accounts payable. This position is responsible for preparing and posting invoices, monitoring contracts balances, generating reports, contributing to process improvements, and serving as a backup for payroll.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparing invoices for Project Manager review in accordance with contractual terms
Perform accounts payable duties, including credit card reconciliations
Recording receipts and payments in the accounting system
Making collections calls and following up on outstanding accounts
Preparing and submitting government remittances
Reconciling general ledger balances
Generating ad hoc reports from the accounting system
Organizing and maintaining finance files and documentation
Maintaining up-to-date customer and supplier contact information
Responding to inquiries from customers and suppliers in a timely and professional manner
Collaborating with other departments to ensure adherence to financial procedures and policies
Providing backup support for the biweekly payroll process
Assisting with other finance-related tasks as required
Skills and Abilities:
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
Proficiency with database systems and accounting software such as Sage 50 or Sage Intacct, along with time, attendance, billing, and project management tools
A solid understanding of full-cycle accounting
Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite--especially Excel--and strong technical aptitude
Analytical ability to gather, organize, and interpret large volumes of data with attention to detail and accuracy
A growth mindset with an interest in process improvement and automation
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines
Strong communication and problem-solving skills to support team members effectively
Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience in a similar role (preferred)
Degree or diploma in Business, Accounting, or Finance
Working Conditions:
Office Staff work in a shared office environment with frequent collaboration, moderate noise, and potential interruptions. Maintaining focus, professionalism, and adaptability is essential.

The salary range for this position is $30-$35 per hour. The final wage will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience, in alignment with Terra Archaeology's internal equity policies and the compensation levels of existing staff with comparable experience levels.
