We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Technician to join our financial team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing various accounting tasks, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and maintaining accurate financial records. This role requires proficiency in accounting software and a strong understanding of bookkeeping principles to ensure the smooth operation of our financial services.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations related to transport activities, including invoicing, expense tracking, fuel usage, vehicle maintenance, and driver payroll
Prepare and review financial statements, transport cost reports, and budget variance analyses
Conduct complex reconciliations (e.g., intercompany, fleet assets, fuel cards) and ensure accuracy in the general ledger
Support the finance manager in forecasting and budgeting for transport-related capital and operating expenditures
Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, government regulations, and industry standards
Liaise with auditors, vendors, transport managers, and regulatory bodies as required
Supervise any office staff, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines
Identify process improvement opportunities and help implement best practices in transport accounting workflows
Utilize accounting and transport management software to generate data-driven insights and cost efficiency strategies
Experience
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft is preferred
Experience with payroll systems
Strong background in bookkeeping and financial services is essential
Excellent math skills with a keen attention to detail for accurate data entry and account analysis
Previous experience in account reconciliation and budgeting is highly desirable
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., AAT, ACCA part-qualified) is an asset
Minimum 1 years of experience in accounting - senior position (experience in transport/logistics industry strongly preferred)
Strong understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, and cost control in a transport or logistics environment
Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP) and Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
