What you will do:





Reporting to the Manager, Payroll and Accounting, in the Finance Division, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:


Perform general accounting duties including accounting entries and the distribution of monthly financial reporting while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data that is processed in the General Ledger Process the day-to-day financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner in compliance with general accounting principles and City policies, resulting in the posting of invoices, payroll entries and journal vouchers to the General Ledger Perform general accounting duties and create and process journal entries such as accrual entries and prepaids Accounting administration including monthly and year-end processes and reconciliation and analysis of various accounts Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and associated journal entries Prepare and remit monthly HST return Maintain the PeopleSoft Financial General Ledger and Commitment Accounting modules, including the chart of accounts Coordinate communication with auditors at year end, collect and provide appropriate information on timely basis to ensure audit completed on time Back up Accounts Payable when required, entering invoices for payment ensuring accuracy Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers; Provide technical advice and information as required Other duties as assigned

What you will bring:




Three (3) year post-secondary diploma in Business Administration or a related field with a minimum two (2) years' related experience preferably in a municipal or other public sector environment; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered Previous experience and proficiency with financial software and databases, preferably PeopleSoft, including experience creating ad-hoc queries and reports Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to accurately verify daily data processed Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel Previous experience working with account reconciliations, monthly financial reporting and journal entries is an asset Superior analytical, math and problem solving skills, as well as strong attention to detail A passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment Strong commitment to delivering quality customer service Demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion
